Today we are looking at the poem The Christ Child by G.K. Chesterton, who wrote this poem in 1896. Because most classical Christian schools will read Chesterton in their upper school curriculum, be it Orthodoxy or The Man Who Was Thursday, it is helpful for grammar school students to have an early exposure to the author. Chesterton is masterful at word play and imagery, which you can see in this poem. It is in some places entitled The Christ Child and in other places A Christmas Carol. In the show notes, look for a YouTube video that arranges the poem to music. It is just lovely—sung or recited chorally.
